The weather in the East Bay is always warmer than the San Francisco, but not scorching hot like Walnut Creek, so its always great to have some projects in Berkeley, CA. I was called to propose on a Kitchen Remodel and a few minor changes to a (2) story bungalow in North Berkeley. I won the bid, and went to the site to find a very tiny, tiny kitchen, where if I outstretched my arms, I would be able to touch the stove on one side and open the refrigerator on the other. Maybe I'm stretching the truth, but It was tiny! OK, Brain at work. My answer was to propose taking a portion of the garage in order to increase the kitchen floor area. Once I reviewed the required clearances in the garage with the city, I was able to create a kitchen that accomodated a washer/dryer folding area, an angled sink area, a range and hood, and we also opened up the wall that separated the dining from the kitchen, and placed a large soapstone counter w/ a raised ledge and some upper cabinets with glass doors. We also increased the light by adding a skylight during construction. Good move. Voila! After a few months of construction, the project is finally done. Great clients to work with and they were quite pleased with the outcome. [completed 07/13/2007]
